Note from the President:
ALL members, including the Board Members and volunteers are welcomed to attend any Sumter Singles Meeting.
There are times when it is necessary for the club to fund entertainment; in these cases a fee will be required to help cover the expenses. ALL members including the Board Members and volunteers that choose not to pay for a ticketed event may leave after the business portion of the meeting. When you pay the fee, you will receive either a ticket or a wristband/hand stamp that entitles you to remain for the entertainment/refreshments.
Your club appreciates all the time and attention that you volunteer to this club. Without your full support this club would not be the successful club that it is. Thank you, thank you!! Carol
Not receiving Sumter Singles E-mails
An on-going problem is members not receiving e-mails. Thanks to Alex Weaver, we have our own domain now!!! We hope that this will eliminate the problem. We can only do so much, and if it is a problem with your provider, you will have to fix it. Most members that are not receiving our mails have Gmail as a provider. Gmail has a problem with CHIMP or CHIMP has a problem with Gmail. If you are not receiving our mail; check with your provider, OR continue to complain.
Start an activity: Got an idea for an activity that you enjoy and want to share with other members of the club? Do you have a talent that would be fun to share with members? Arlene Kaplan can assist you in setting up your event, contact Arlene at email@example.com
Chicken Soup Program: In an effort to help our Sumter Singles Members when they are in need because of a temporary disability or illness or recovering from surgery, we are beginning a program called CHICKEN SOUP. When a member is at home and unable to get out, we hope to have some volunteers who will help. This may entail something as simple as taking a bowl of soup to this member or picking up some groceries for him or her or taking the member to the doctor or another appointment. It is NOT intended to provide medical assistance or any kind of nursing care. It is just to help a member who has a temporary need and has no one else to ask. If you know of a member who could use some help or if you would like to volunteer for CHICKEN SOUP, please let us know. Contact: Frank Harmon (259-2140)

Will there be a waiting list? The board has decided: We will not keep a waiting list.
Where We Go From Here. H-m-m-m.
We have asked you to get involved: If you would like to be on a short term study committee to talk about the club’s future, contact Board Member Jim Rosenmeier, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sumter Singles Club Meeting Format. FYI
Village Singles president, Pinky O’Neill, has given a special invite to our club to attend their dance night on August 15 at Hacienda Recreation Center. Pinky will be at our sign up tables - Sign up in advance, but pay at the event.
Sumter Singles Elections
Our club may have board positions open for 2017. Here is a heads-up on that. Open positions will be announced in August. It’d be a good idea to think of your own skills and dedications to the club; maybe this is the year you step up to the board.
August Club Meeting.
Begins the process of elections.
Board vacancies for 2017 will be announced, and an election committee will be formed from among the membership. Please care enough about your club, and the club’s future, to offer yourself to this election committee.
August Club Meeting- Fun and FUNDRAISER
Ric Mitchell will return for a rollicking afternoon of trivia bingo, followed by dancing. This event is NOT ticketed; first comers get seated. BYOB. But, fundraiser Bingo cards will be sold, $10.00 per set, at the meeting. You can pay in cash, or write a tax deductable check for the cards. Make it out to CVC. If you are feeling generous, increase your amount. (You only get one bingo packet, but your check covers that and the extra donated amount.) Our August meeting will be devoted to collecting contributions to support CVC Combat Veterans To Careers. This is a local chapter with offices at 1000 Main Street, The Villages. 352-255-1179. This is a nonprofit organization, so you may wish to donate by check.
FYI: NO “FREEBIES”
Some folks think that we board members do not pay a membership fee, or we do not have to pay for the club events. NOT TRUE, FOLKS! We pay, just like you. None of us, and none of our other volunteers, get in free.
Members on the Mend
We have numerous club members who have had surgeries, or who are undergoing treatment. Their needs might be addressed by neighbors/friends, but not everyone has created a good support system, so there are, now and then, members in need. If you are a caring person, blessed with a compassionate personality, please consider being a member of “Chicken Soup” a caring corps of Sumter Singles who do small but needed tasks. Note: Do not pet LEADER DOGS. A leader dog, when out in public, is “on the job”.
